OFI – Hoffenheim 2-0: Historic European night with triumph in Heraklion

OFI subdued German Hoffenheim 2-0 thanks to goals from Aitor Cantalapiedra and Giorgos Kanellopoulos.

OFI made a return to European competitions in the most impressive way. In the premiere of the Europa League League Phase, the Cretan team prevailed 2-0 over German Hoffenheim, ideally starting their group stage obligations.

Lead in the first half with Aitor

The visitors had possession of the ball at the start, however, Christos Kontis' team proved to be extremely dangerous on counter-attacks. In the 30th minute, after a pass from Kenan Kodro, Aitor Cantalapiedra found the net from close range, sending the ball to the left of Oliver Baumann's goal for 1-0.

Kanellopoulos sealed the victory

In the second half, Hoffenheim coach Christian Ilzer made changes to push for an equalizer, bringing on players like Andrej Kramaric and Bapase Konte. Despite the pressure from the Germans, OFI maintained their defensive cohesion and Nikos Christogeorgos' goal remained untouched.

The golden substitution for the hosts came in the 84th minute. Giorgos Kanellopoulos, who had entered the field in the 70th minute, capitalized on Borja Gonzalez's pass and headed in for the final 2-0, giving OFI a great victory.
