Panathinaikos: The second best defensive start since 1996

Panathinaikos has conceded just four goals in the first nine matchdays of the Stoiximan Super League, recording their second best defensive performance since 1996. Only in the 2022-23 season did the "Greens" have a better record at the corresponding point of the championship.

Scores and wins

Jakob Nystrup's team has found the net in eight of their nine games and won all of them. The only time they failed to score was in the derby against Olympiacos in Faliro, where they also suffered their only defeat.

In total, Panathinaikos has scored 20 goals. In the eight games in which they scored, their average reaches 2.5 goals per match. This is a combination of offensive effectiveness and defensive consistency that largely explains their presence at the top.

Only four goals conceded

The "Greens" failed to keep a clean sheet against PAOK, Kifisia and Asteras AKTOR at OAKA, as well as in the away derby against Olympiacos. In the other five games, they did not concede a goal.

Three of the four goals conceded were recorded at OAKA. However, in these specific matches, Panathinaikos scored a total of 11 goals and secured an equal number of victories, so they were not affected in terms of points.

Collective work and decisive Peña

This performance is not exclusively the work of the defenders. The entire team operates with discipline without the ball, limiting spaces and making it difficult for opponents to develop their play.

Peña's contribution is also significant, as he has responded whenever needed, providing security between the posts. Panathinaikos has acquired the balance required for a championship contender: they score consistently and at the same time allow very few chances and goals to their opponents.
