AEK: The issue of replacing Zubkov on the European list is open
AEK has not yet made a final decision regarding the potential replacement of Oleksandr Zubkov on the European list.
AEK has not yet made a final decision regarding the potential replacement of Oleksandr Zubkov on the European list.
The Ukrainian winger suffered a stress fracture in his tibia and is expected to be out of action for six to eight weeks. The severity of his injury creates a significant void in Marco Nikolic's plans, especially ahead of the continuation of the Champions League League Phase.
The condition for replacement
UEFA regulations allow a team to change its European list if a player suffers a serious injury and his absence is estimated to be at least 60 days.
This specific process is not automatic. It requires the submission of the necessary medical documents and the final approval of UEFA. Therefore, AEK must first ascertain whether Zubkov's case meets the relevant conditions.
The "Union" had exercised the same right last season when Ljubicic took the place of the injured Zini on the European list.
AEK's available options
The possibility of a change is being considered, but the player who could replace Zubkov has not yet been chosen.
Currently, Kutesa, Georgiev, Alexiou, Sahamabo, and Kaloskame are not on the European list. AEK officials will evaluate the competitive data and squad needs before deciding whether to submit a relevant request to UEFA.
