A great European night for OFI in Bucharest, with Christos Kontis' team defeating Hapoel Be'er Sheva 2-0 and taking a significant step towards qualifying for the next phase of the Europa League.
The Cretans delivered a mature and effective performance, with Poungouras and Foundas scoring the two goals. With their second victory in the League Phase, they reached six points and climbed to 16th place in the unified standings.
Dominated and warned with Foundas
OFI started the match strongly, aiming from the first minutes to control the pace and move the game into Hapoel's area. Christos Kontis' players circulated the ball well and did not allow the Israelis to create significant dangers.
The biggest chance before the goal came with Taxiarchis Foundas. The Greek forward attempted an excellent shot, but the ball hit the post, denying him a spectacular goal.
The Cretans' superiority paid off in injury time of the first half. After a free-kick by Athanasiou and a scramble in Hapoel's area, Poungouras reacted faster than anyone and, with a tap-in, sent the ball into the net for a 0-1 lead in the 45+2’.
