Azzedine Ounahi's injury proved to be much more serious than initially estimated. The Moroccan midfielder has suffered a complete tendon rupture in the biceps of his right leg, will undergo surgery and is expected to be out of action for approximately five months.
Initial data overturned
Ounahi was injured in Panathinaikos' match against Asteras Tripolis and left the field in the 19th minute, with Tete taking his place.
Initial examinations had shown a severe biceps strain, with the initial recovery time estimated at around two and a half months. However, Panathinaikos officials decided to wait for the hematoma to subside and subject the player to a second MRI.
Its results revealed that the damage was greater, as a complete rupture of the tendon in the biceps of the right leg was found.
Ounahi to undergo surgery on Thursday
Following the new data, surgical treatment of the injury was chosen, in order to fully repair the damage and minimize the risk of recurrence as much as possible.

The Moroccan midfielder is expected to undergo surgery on Thursday (29/10) and then begin a long and demanding recovery period.
Panathinaikos will not take any risks with his return. Ounahi will only return when he is fully ready, with the timeline depending on the course of his recovery.
When is he expected to return
The timeframe for Ounahi's return is set during the Super League playoffs. This means he will miss the rest of the regular season, as well as a significant part of Panathinaikos' obligations in the Cup and Conference League.
