Panathinaikos showed a great reaction in Madrid, beating Real 115-112 in overtime for the 10th Euroleague gameday.

Panathinaikos showed a great reaction in Madrid, beating Real 115-112 in overtime for the 10th Euroleague gameday.

After consecutive defeats to Anadolu Efes in Europe and Aris in the championship, the "Greens" returned to winning ways in the most impressive fashion. The main protagonist was Kendrick Nunn, who scored 33 points and led Zeljko Obradovic's team in a game that lasted 45 minutes.

Started strong and pulled away by 15 points

Panathinaikos started with focus on defense and effectiveness in offense, quickly taking a 13-6 lead. The first quarter ended with the "Trifilli" ahead 24-18, having limited Real to 1/8 three-pointers.

The picture got even better in the second ten minutes. With Sloukas finding solutions from the perimeter, the visitors reached up to +15 (26-41). Real, however, reacted and reduced the difference to three points before the break (48-51).

Nunn took action

The game turned into a derby in the second half, with Panathinaikos closing the third quarter ahead 74-73. Nunn started taking successive attacks and finding scores in every way, keeping his team upright against the pressure of the Madrilenians.

The "Greens" were at +7 about two minutes before the end, but Real managed to come back. Nunn with two successful free throws made it 101-99 in the last seconds, but Feliz equalized to 101-101 and sent the match to overtime.

Lessort and Francisco "cleaned up" in overtime

In the extra five minutes, Real led 103-101, but Panathinaikos did not lose its composure. Francisco provided significant solutions, while Lessort dominated near the basket and scored crucial points for 109-105.

The "Greens" managed the last possessions correctly and reached the big victory with 115-112, stopping Real's streak of 11 consecutive successes in all competitions.

Nunn finished the game with 33 points, having 8/8 two-pointers, 3/5 three-pointers and 8/8 free throws. Lessort was also excellent with 20 points, nine rebounds and five assists, while Francisco added 19 points.

The quarters: 18-24, 48-51, 73-74, 101-101 and 112-115 in overtime.

Remained at the top of the Euroleague

With the big away win in Madrid, Panathinaikos improved its record to 8-2 and remained in first place in the Euroleague. At the same time, they reached two away wins and left behind the poor performances in Istanbul and Thessaloniki.

Next up is the derby with AEK

The "Greens" now return to their Stoiximan GBL obligations. On Sunday (08/11, 13:00) they will face AEK at the "SUNEL Arena" for the 6th gameday, seeking a reaction in the Greek championship after the defeat by Aris.

Panathinaikos' next Euroleague match is scheduled for Friday (13/11, 21:15), against Barcelona at the "Telekom Center Athens".
